The Radicalization of Rolfe

Dear Friends, Family & Colleagues:

I am so very excited to let you all know that I am producing a fantastic new play in the 20th Annual New York International Fringe Festival (FringeNYC.org ).

I am hoping that you will help fund this exciting production.  We need to raise $20,000 to take full advantage of the FringeNYC opportunity and showcase this thrilling new play.  Any amount you can contribute is greatly appreciated.  And we need to raise this money very quickly...like yesterday.

The play, The Radicalization of Rolfe, is the ingenious work of playwright Andrew Bergh.  (Some of you may remember that I directed most of Andy's early plays, including Bliss and Waiting.)

The Radicalization of Rolfe takes place in Salzburg, Austria, in the last golden days of the 1930’s.  Messenger boy, Rolfe, 17 going on 18, is trying to make his way in the Third Reich and rise in the new order, but has been stuck delivering messages to a certain Widowed Austrian Naval Captain with seven children, at his Villa and flirting with the Captain’s eldest daughter, under the watchful eye of the children’s new governess from nearby Nonnberg Abbey.  Rolfe quickly discovers that the conflicts between his ambition and his sexuality pose life and death consequences.

Andrew Bergh has written a play that takes as it's jumping off point a minor character from musical theater history (have you figured out yet what musical I am talking about?) and creates a whole new theatrical world proving the B-characters have a destiny, too.

I am also pleased to let you know that helming this production will be award-winning filmaker and theater director, Abigail Zealey Bess.

Our amazing cast includes Polly Adams*, Domenic Comperatore*, Alex J. Gould*, Jay Patterson* & Logan Sutherland (*Members- Actor's Equity Association)

I truly and deeply believe in this play and in the work of Andrew Bergh.  Andy's time has come and it would mean the world to me if you could share my joy in helping Andy get the recognition he and his work so richly deserve.

We will be performing at the The Players Theater, 115 MacDougal Street in Greenwich Village.

Our five performances are:
Friday August 12 - 5pm
Sunday August 14 - 9:45pm
Friday August 19 - 7pm
Sunday August 21- Noon
Wednesday August 24 - 4:30 pm
