Hope for Mason Belfour
Donation protected
Mason Ayden Gordon Belfour was born full term at 39 weeks on may 4th 2016 via emergency csection. Destiny and her husbnd Justin went to the hospital because mason did not move all day and would not respond to touch even though upon arrival they were told his heart rate was a healthy 155. After destinys water being broke, mason still did not move so the decision to have a csection was made. Mason then went directly to the nicu where he would end up staying for 10 days before being transfered to the peditric unit of the hospital for the reminder of his 26 day hospital stay.Originally they thought he was going there for pooping in the womb and swallowing it but upon their first visit to see mason in the nicu, doctors had informed them that he had low platelet count and his umbilical cord was continuously bleeding and he had received a blood transfusion shortly after birth to keep him from bleeding to death. Later that day, doctors had explained that blood clots in the womb had exploded a day or so prior causing a lack of oxygen getting to mason. These blood clots led to a stroke on the entire right side of his brain as well as a portion of the left side. This is what doctors explained to be severe brain damage. Mason will have seizures in his brain indefinately, but are currently under control with a medication called phenobarbital. (It is a possiblity that he can become immune to this medication later on). Because the damage to his brain has been diagnosed as severe doctors have told the family that it is very unlikely he will never walk, talk or see. A hearing test has been completed and as of now he is not currently deaf. Mason has been unofficially diagnosed with cerebral Palsy. Doctors can not officially put a stamp on the diagnosis based on his age but as of right now, he has all the signs of cerebral Palsy so they are treating it as that for the time being. Currently mason is on a feeding tube and oxygen. When he arrives home he will have both, and as for a time frame of if he will ever not need them there is not one. Mason will need oxygen for breathing complications in his sleep. He slips into such deep sleeps to the point where his brain actually tells him to stop breathing. Masons condition has been placed under the category of life threatening and this will never change due to the fact that his brain is unfixable. For the rest of his life mason will be seeing plenty of doctors. A pediatric doctor, a neurologist, a hematologist, a respiratory therapist, a pain and pallative doctor as well as have constant visits to the kinsmen children center, gastric tube clinics, the nicu clinic and follow ups with home care nurses often. Since masons condition is considered life threatening this families life has been completely changed and will have to continue changing to fit any needs required present and future. Any donations raised will go directly into a bank account that has been created on behalf of mason and will be used for any uncovered medical expenses, medical equipment, prescriptions and home care he needs now and may need in the future. Any denomination of donation will truly help this family in such a difficult and unexpected time. We thank you for reading masons story and your prayers, positive thoughts and donations are greatly appreciated.
