Hi there and thanks for visiting, my name is Kim. On the morning of November 4th, my dear friend Johanna's house was significantly damaged by a fire. She lived here with her mother, 3 children (ages 8, 11, and 20), and their labradoodle Max. It is a blessing no one was home at the time of the fire, and everyone is safe.
Unfortunately, every level of the home experienced significant damage and all of their belongings were destroyed. The kids, Johanna, and her mom all have a few clothing items to get them through the next few days, but that is about it. Since Johanna's family is displaced, the most immediate need is support for basic necessities. She and her family will also need continued support in the coming months while she gets back on her feet. Her oldest daughter utilizes a wheelchair for mobility and has additional care needs. She has her power chair, but all other supplies and equipment were lost in the fire. These items are part of her everyday life, and she no longer has these resources.
A little more about Johanna and her family... Johanna is the type of person that would drop everything to be there for anyone in need. She is an amazing mother, fierce advocate for disability rights, and her children are always her first priority.
Johanna's eldest, Lis, is currently attending Anoka-Ramsey Community College and works part-time at a local school. Lis is incredibly strong and resilient. Although Lis lives with physical and medical complications, she shows an infinite amount of determination and persistence.
Sebastian is 11 and loves to play soccer and, true to any pre-teen boy, loves playing video games. He's a sweet and kind young man.
Ellen is Johanna's youngest. She loves cats, but really any animal will make her gush. Ellen is the life of the party, always making everyone laugh with her bubbly personality.
Last but certainly not least, Johanna's mother, Aurora. She supports Johanna with caring for her children, especially Lis. Aurora is a sweet, sassy, and wonderful woman who endlessly supports her family.
It's times like these we're reminded about the strength of our community. If you'd prefer contributing via Venmo, donations can be made directly to @Kimberly225 or @Johanna-Jaquez-1. Thanks for visiting and your support.
