Amelia, Juan, and Javier's Journey

Donation protected

This is Amelia, Juan and Javier's story. In 2012 Juan was 9 years old, when a visit to the ER revealed he had a brain tumor. Juan had his first surgery and their journey began. Juan was referred to St Jude’s Children’s Hospital, the only option as they were uninsured and had no means to pay for treatment in Phoenix. They traveled to St Jude where Juan underwent his second surgery, followed by 33 rounds of radiation. Juan's initial diagnosis was a grade 2 and 3 Pleomorphic xanthoastrocytoma with anaplastic features.
He was going through something no child should go through and throughout his treatment he had the best attitude. The hardest part for him was leaving Javier (4yr little brother) in Phoenix, he missed him immensely. Juan finished treatment in December 2012 and they returned home. While at St Jude Amelia felt a lump in her breast, once back in Phoenix she visited her doctor. At just 26 years old she was diagnosed with breast cancer...... in a matter of just a few months she was facing cancer once again but now fighting for her own life. Her first surgery was in February 2013, following with chemo treatments and radiation. Amelia's diagnostic Invasive ductal carcinoma grade 2 and 3. 16 out of 19 lymph nodes were also infected and removed.
She has had multiple surgeries and continued treatment all while trying to give the boys a "normal" life. Li-Fraumeni Syndrome- is a rare inherited genetic cancer disorder that greatly increases one's risk of developing cancer during their lifetime. Sometimes people with LFS develop multiple cancers and multiple tumors often in childhood or as young adults. Amelia, Juan and Javier all have this genetic disorder.
After four years of successful check-ups with no reoccurrences in July 2016 Juan goes through another surgery... The tumor returned. His diagnosis now is an anaplastic astrocytoma grade 3.
They are currently at St Jude’s where Juan is again receiving treatment. Amelia is focused entirely on Juan’s treatment. She is a single mother, and sole provider for her boys. Having to miss work so much, has affected her financially. She needs our help. Her rent, utilities, and all of her financial responsibilities are adding up. Let's help take those worries away from her so she can continue to have Juan as her main and only priority.  Anything you can help with will be greatly appreciated. Help us give Amelia and her boys the strength they need to overcome this difficult chapter in their lives. Please keep them in your prayers. Thank you.
