Our beloved mom and grandma passed away peacefully today, December 17th due to COVID-19 complications.
Mrs. Uma Devi Adhikari’s story is that of migration, family, hard work, and resilience.
Born on May 28, 1932 in rural Nepal, she left the country as a teenager, along with her husband and one daughter. After trekking for weeks, they decided to settle in Dagana, Bhutan, where they raised their 10 children. Just as she was living the waning days of her adult life, Mrs. Uma Devi had to flee the country due to political and religious conflicts in the region. And in the early 1990s, she resettled in Timai Refugee Camp in Eastern Nepal, along with her children and grandchildren.
After 16 years in the Refugee Camp, Mrs. Uma Devi moved again, this time to San Antonio, Texas and then ultimately to Pataskala, Ohio, where she lays in rest.
Mrs. Uma Devi leaves behind 6 daughters and 4 sons, 34 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren.
She wished well to all who’ve known her throughout her life, and all those she met. May her departed soul rest in peace.

हिजो डिसेम्बर १७ का दिन हाम्री ममतामहि हजुरआमाको असामयिक निधन भएको छ।
May २२ 1932 मा ग्रामीण नेपालमा जन्मिनु भएकी उहाले आफ्ना पति र एक छोरीसँग किशोरी उमेरमै देश छोड्नु भएको थियो। पैदल हुदै भुटानको दगाना बसोबास गर्न पुग्नु भएको उहाले दश छोरा छोरी हुर्काउनु भयो। खेतीपाती गरेर आफ्नो जिबिका निभाउदै आउनु भएको उहाले अन्तत: राजनीतिक र धार्मिक द्वन्द्वका कारण देश छोडी नेपालको टिमाई सरनार्थी सिबिरमा सन् १९९१ मा पुग्नु भएको थियो।
16 बर्ष शरणार्थी शिविरमा जिबिका चलायेपछि, श्रीमती उमा देवी टेक्सासको स्यान एन्टोनियो हुदै ओहायोको पटस्कालामा पुनर्बास हुनुभएको थियो।
उमा देवी ४ छोरा, ६ छोरी, ३४ नाती नातिना, ४० पनाति पनातिना, ४ जनाती जनातिनाकी धनि हुनुहुन्थियो।
COVID 19 ले गर्दा हामी एकजुट हुन नसके पनि सहयोग गर्न चाहनु हुने महानुभावले यही सूचनालाई आधार मानेर यस लिन्कमा मानो चामल जम्मा गर्न सक्नु हुनेछ। धन्यबाद ।
