Timothy Chapter 4:7-8

I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith; Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, shall give me at that day; and not to me only, but unto all them also that love His appearing.

On Thursday, May 19, 2016 at 6:00 am,  Lyubov Lankin, a loving mother, supportive friend, and a beloved sister suffered a sudden cardiac arrest in her sleep. She was resuscitated by our neighbor and the EMT then quickly transferred over to San Juan Mercy Medical Center. It was there that the neurologist and cardiologist, after conducting many medical examinations and CT scans discovered that she suffered a severe anoxic brain injury. She remained in a vegetative state but heroically fought for 19 days. On Monday, June 06, 2016 at 6:35pm, Lyubov Lankin at the young age of 48 passed away into a better place.

We wish that we had more time and perhaps that during that time we had spent more of that time together. We wish that she was still here with us because she was so young.  While we know that she is at peace and that her struggles are over, there is still pain and sadness. But even though she is gone, she has left behind the legacy of her love, faith and perseverance. The ways she touched our lives will remain, and I ask all of you to keep those memories alive by sharing them with me and one another.

There are really no words or phrases to describe the closeness I had with my mother. I know this because the slow, agonizing descend of death forces even the most optimistic and hopeful to think about and plan this day. You start considering what you might say during a time like this and imagine what this day might be like. My heart is in shambles. And you then realize that there really are no words.

There are only feelings, indescribable feelings and previous happy memories. Feelings that make the heart burst and your very person melt away. It’s because my mother was my everything. My strength. My confidence. My source of joy and happiness. She was my rock and my foundation.  She was this incredibly kind soul that never turned away a person who was in need or needed help. She would do all of this with a happy heart. She never took the time of day to spend time on herself. My mother deeply cared for everyone she knew, whether you were her family, loved one, friends or a member of the church. One of the most important things in my mother’s life was her God and her family. This is where she drew her strength, from her fellowship with the members and with God. She was devoutly dedicated to her Lord and family. She spent countless nights praying for her family and loved ones. You can ask anyone who knew her that she was in fact an inspirational example to all of us. From the bottom of my heart I can easily say that my mother was an angel.

How many people in this world have it so much easier than our mother did? How many never had to face half the trouble she faced, and yet lose sight so easily of what is truly important. Many of us get distracted by insignificant things in life, many of us focus on our little problems and forget that which is most important.

But through everything mother went through, she managed to keep her priorities straight. What can be more important than loving and showing your love for your family and your God? How can some of us who are blessed with so much forget to be thankful to God, while somehow our mother kept her faith through all her trials?

She truly was an outstanding person and a wonderful example to follow. She kept focused on what truly was important not only when life was easy but when it was difficult as well. She has finally found her peace. She is in a better place with her mother, father and her Lord.
