Our dear friend, mother, sister, neighbor, or colleague, Kim Roy, has recently been diagnosed with Pancreatic Adenocarcinoma Cancer. Kim is being treated by her care team at the Virginia Piper Cancer Institute in Minneapolis.
At this point the cancer has spread to one of her lymph nodes, she will find out more after an upcoming PET scan and MRI on Thursday, which will double check the surrounding organs to make sure they don't see anything they might have missed.
Last Friday Kim had a port placed and will begin her chemo therapy regimen beginning next week. Her treatment plan is to start the chemo, then possibly radiation therapy in hopes to shrink the tumor and kill any rouge bad cells that could have been missed. Then final tumor removal surgery may be needed. The chemo will be aggressive.
In the event of surgery, she will have a long healing period due to the invasiveness of having to cut into a number of other surrounding organs to get to the pancreas, the removal of the tumor, and then repair to other organs involved. Due to the long healing process of the surgery they have found that waiting to start the chemo until after the surgery can be detrimental to the patient's recovery.
Kim is off work and will be for an undetermined time. She is feeling pain in her abdomen and back area because the tumor is pressing on her sciatic nerve. She will go in for a pain block this Friday. She has little to no appetite, but still the positive "I'm going to do what I need to" type attitude. Her faith is strong, her spirits are for the most part good, and she is deeply touched by all the care and concern that has come her way.
We started this Go Fund Me Page to help Kim and her two children, Kyle and Haley, not to have to worry about the medical expenses that are already coming in. Times are difficult for many at this time - however, if you can help - much appreciated. If you cannot monetarily please continue to send Love and Prayers.
