Help my dad get back on his feet!

I am desperately trying to help my parents who are in an extremely tough financial bind due to my father’s medical problems.

My father, Bob Damato, is an incredible man! He has served our country & community for several years & is a Navy Veteran & former Volunteer Fireman. He is the first person to help others, one of my favorite quotes that perfectly describes my father is, “I learned to give not because I have much, but because I know exactly how it feels to have nothing.” –Anonymous. Even if my father could not afford to help others, he would be the first to lend his hand or open our home to others.

He has had several illnesses in his life & they just seem to keep coming. My mother lost her job several years ago & has worked alongside my father since then, but with all of my father’s illnesses when he could not work it resulted in her not working as well. She would stay home & take care of my father. This time my father needs more care than ever, but they cannot afford for them both to be out of work.

Most recently my father fell off of our roof that he was trying to fix after months of saving enough money to have the materials to fix it. When he fell off he broke his back & was nearly paralyzed. He spent several weeks in a hospital & could only walk a few steps a day. He is starting to walk better now, however, he recently learned that it will be another year until he can return to work.

Prior to his accident, my father was driving tractor-trailers across the country, but due to his injury truck driving is physically not possible for him right now. Now my parents are facing financial hardships including not being able to pay their mortgage.

Here is a list of the illnesses my father has endured over the years so that you can see what kind of life struggles he has had & conquered.

-1968 Hernia surgery at 8 years old

-1979 Another hernia surgery

-1991 Cancer (Testicular)

-1993 Stomach surgery as a result of the radiations treatments he had for cancer

-1998 Broke his L4 & L5 vertebrae. A fusion cage was placed in his back & he spent 2 years in a body cast due to his bones not growing properly… Also, an issue that stemmed from radiation

-1999 Shoulder surgery

-2000 Cyst removed from Nasal Passage

-2000 Diagnosed with Sleep Apnea & forced to use a CPAP machine

-2002 Diagnosed with Diabetes

-2010 Heart complications & had to have an artery cleaned

-2012 Right knee replaced

-2013 Left knee replaced

-2014 Diagnosed with a serious bladder problem… Due to radiation treatments. His bladder had stopped working. He had to have a pacemaker placed in his right buttocks area to control the bladder

-2015 Had continued problems with the bladder & had to have a second pacemaker for it placed in the left buttocks area

-2017 Gall Bladder removed

-2017 Found out that his diabetes was caused by radiation

-2018 Most recent accident… Broke his back & pacemakers needs to be replaced because they were destroyed when he fell off the roof

My Father has always worked through the pain until he was physically & mentally exhausted. He is one of New York State’s finest Tree Climbers. He is also a very talented handyman who can fix & build anything. Hard work is so instilled in his lifestyle that he feels guilty when he is not working. He loves to work & absolutely loves what he does & will put everything he has into his jobs. The combination of his injuries & illnesses along with his age, it is hard for him to continue working such physical jobs.

Even though he has had to stop working many times & yet he has always kept a positive attitude & somehow was able to conquer his illnesses & come out with that positive attitude still intact. He continued to work to provide for our family even when the pain was too much to bear. He helped put me through college & allowed me to follow my dreams.

For the past 10 years, he has not been able to pay very much into Social Security, as a result the Social Security Disability he will be receiving will not be enough to pay their bills.

I am asking you to please consider helping a man who needs help & is very shy about asking for it. Please help save my parents from bankruptcy & if you can not make a financial donation to please share this with your friends & family.
