My baby sister Lenzie is something like a walking miracle. She was diagnosed with Lupus when she was 8 and since then she has had different complications. Her kidneys stopped working at 17years old. She received a kidney, but due to an infection it is no longer working and she is back on dialysis. Lupus has also attacked her pancreas which caused her to have diabetes. She has remained faithful, and her spirits have been pretty good for the most part. Lenzie does not and will not let her illness stop her.
Lenzie has not been able to experience so many things that a 25 year old woman should experience, but she decided it was time for that to end. In 2014 Lenzie decided to go back to school after a lot of ups and downs with her education. She went to DePaul, but once her kidneys failed she had to sit out for years. In 2014, she decided to take baby steps and retain an associates degree first. She completed her first year at Kennedy King College with minimal problems, and her advisor informed her that with about three more full semesters she could graduate with her associates and try again at another university. 2016 was a year of no regrets for Lenzie, so of course she took her advsior’s challenge. In 2016, Lenzie also did something she has wanted to do for a long time, she took a birthday trip! Due to dialyzing 3 times a week she has not been out of state for more than a day for a while. Lenzie found a good hospital in Vegas for dialysis and she took her 25th bday trip! Once she came back, she walked across the stage at the UIC pavilion as a college graduate with a 3.0 GPA.
Unfortunately, as of May Lenzie’s health has taken some unforeseen turns. She has not been able to dialyze correctly due to several blood clots. The most recent clot is right by her lungs. Lenzie has been in and out the hospital for the last two months for at least 3 weeks at a time. She is currently in the hospital and has had two life threating scares while there this time. My parents take great care of Lenzie, but at times it can take a toll on them: mentally, physically, and financially. Lenzie has SSI benefits, but it is very limited because she is not independent. She is in Northwestern hospital and my parents go to see her every day. They have to pay for parking, they have to eat out a lot, they bring her a lot of different trinkets to keep her busy, and they make sure she has her favorite snacks and toiletries just so it could feel like home. Of course Lenzie is not able to help them with funding, but it would be nice and I believe she would feel more like an adult if for once she can get her own things. This money will also help Lenzie pay off her school bill so she can smoothly transition to a four-year university. I have decided to secretly create a go fund me to help her as well as my parents with some of the expenses. I am attaching her account to it. I cannot wait to see her face when she looks at her account to see how she can help my parents (Like she normally does) and finds all the blessing that her loved ones have bestowed upon her. Thank you for your help in advance.
