The memorial service for my friend and father, Mark Perleberg, is being held this Sunday in Santa Fe. In lieu of flowers, my sister and I wanted, as most folks do, to ask our friends and family to donate to a cause that my father would have held in esteem. Although he had many charities that he was active with during his life, my father, believeing that so much of our lives are determined by the luck of our circumstances, often took it opon himself to give directly to those that needed it or could benefit from it.
Keeping with that, we have set up this fund in order to help the caregivers in Colorado Springs who were instrumental in helping my dad enjoy the final days of his life. These wonderful women held his hand, kissed him, feed him, and, when he finally passed, they shed tears with the rest of our family. They made my dad feel human when his condition otherwise prevented it. Eleanor, Odille, Darna, Jenni, Tamara, and Jasmine are all in our debt. But, as these women are not legally nurses, but caregivers, they don't get paid nearly enough for the back breaking work that they do. Giving any money to the small staff would help these women with their bills, their familes, and make my father happy to know his passing could help make their lives a bit easier.
Mark cared deeply for these women, so let's try our best to show how much that care meant to us. Open those wallets and let's pass $2000!
