28 Day Climb for Hope

Hi, my name is Martin Feeney and every year for the past few years I take part in fundraising for any local Organisations / Hospitals / Mental Health Services & Individuals who need funding for any health-related issues.

This year I am going to climb Knocknarea for 28 days in a row for Northwest STOP Suicide Prevention starting Tuesday 19th of March 2024 with the final climb on Monday the 15th April 2024.

This is a crucial lifesaving service and after being involved in a fundraiser just over a year ago on their behalf I learned what they do and its heartbreaking to have found out some of the individuals ringing seeking help are as young as 9 years old.

North West STOP don’t receive any funding from the government, they rely totally on fundraising, donations and corporate donations to fund their services.

Who are Northwest STOP Suicide Prevention?

They are a local charity based in the Northwest who provide FREE COUNSELLING with QUALIFIED COUNSELLORS with NO WAITING LISTS to those who are in distress or feeling suicidal and those who have been bereaved by suicide. They cover counties Sligo, Leitrim, Donegal, Cavan, Longford, Roscommon and Mayo. People who phone STOP seeking help are seen by a member of their counselling team within in most cases 48 hours

North West STOP have a building which was purchased in 2022, which will be their permanent home where they will have an office, counselling rooms, play and art therapy room and a connect café and training room. We will be using the training room for group therapy, training in suicide prevention and skills in minding your mental health.

The demand on our services goes up year on year. These are figures for counselling for the last 4 financial years.
