Help! I've been evicted!

Donation protected
Hello. I’m Noreen (Leach) Nelson and I’m 95 years young. Ten years ago, I died for four minutes, and I have some memory of God’s angels helping me through that time. When my heart stopped, I had a stroke. After nine months in rehab hospitals and nursing homes, I went back home to live on my own until I was about 93½. People say I am a miracle, but I think God had more for me to do.

I’m not ill and my mind is good—I’ve just lost my mobility and can no longer walk. Approximately two years ago, I moved into an assisted living facility. In the state of Washington, most assisted living facilities require you pay out of pocket for two years before you can go onto Medicaid. On August 2, 2021, the assisted living facility where I have lived for nearly the last two years gave me a 30-day eviction notice.

My eviction comes two months before I was to be eligible for Medicaid assistance. While it isn’t legal to evict someone on these grounds, especially during these pandemic times, I suspect the assisted living facility wanted me out before the transition to Medicaid as they don’t get paid as much for Medicaid beds as they do for Medicare beds. In our State of Washington, the Governor had put a moratorium on evictions until the end of September, so my family asked for a bit more time to find a suitable place for me to move. Since that facility had taken most of my money, it wasn’t possible for me to move to another place that required a two-year pay out-of-pocket and start over. They said no, without providing any reason for the eviction or for the extension denial.

My family found a comfortable Adult Family Home for me to live in, and they were able to negotiate the out-of-pocket expenses down to 10 months before I can then move onto Medicaid. The cost, however, is $6500 a month, which means I need to come up with $65,000 in order to live here until then.

A friend of our family suggested GoFundMe as a way for people to help me, if they felt moved to. Just as I am confident that God has a reason for keeping me here on Earth for the past 95 years, I am just as confident that He put good people on this Earth who will want to help me raise these funds. It would mean so much to my family to know I am safe and well taken care of. The eviction and move have been very difficult on me emotionally, so I would appreciate any help people want to give.
