Liz's ALS Medical Fund

Donation protected
As many of you may or may not know, Liz McGarry Cinq-Mars – wife, mother, daughter, sister, friend – has been battling ALS (Lou Gehrig Disease) for nearly four years. By the end of 2012, we noticed Liz's speech began to slur. She was initially diagnosed with bulbar palsy; this rapidly progressed to Lou Gehrig Disease. Since then, she has lost her ability to speak, to eat, and to walk.  At this point, Liz has lost all mobility and struggles to hold her head up.

ALS is a fast progressing disease that essentially prevents muscle control and movement so that the muscles atrophy. This means that you are not able to control your movement and eventually suffocate as the muscles in the diaphragm stop working.

Although most of us are familiar with ALS from the ice bucket challenge, we often are not aware of the overwhelming financial costs associated in trying to live with ALS. There is installation of ramps, new doors, assistive devices, a hospital bed, bathroom renovations, personal care support, private nurses and more. While her husband Mark is employed full-time with insurance benefits, not all expenses are covered – namely the necessary round the clock nursing care and other inevitable costs.

What is most important to Liz, at this time, is to maintain her function and comfort at home for as long as possible; this is why we have set up this account. We have been witnessing Liz and her family struggle with day-to-day needs. Despite the situation, Liz has amazingly maintained a positive attitude; she is a true fighter.  Liz has been there for many of us during our times of need, now it is our turn to be there for Liz.

All money will be given to Liz's husband, Mark, to help with any medical costs the family has incurred during the course of Liz's illness. Any donation amount is very much appreciated.

Thank you for taking the time to visit Liz's campaign page, and please continue PRAYING for a miracle! Please share this campaign with as many as possible. The more people we reach, the greater the impact we can make and provide awareness of this horrible disease.
