I am absolutely excited to announce:
I have just been accepted into the DC Education Policy Fellowship Program (EPFP click here for info).
This is a 10-month program focused on national education policy, leadership workshops, and a chance to engage with local and national leaders in education. This is the next step that I need to continue to grow and make change in the field of education. Please help me to make this program a reality.
Nationwide about 300 people are selected each year and I am so proud to have been selected but the cost is slightly more than I can afford if I want to still have food in the house for me and my child LOL.
Me and education:
For some reason there always seems to be some obstacle to my education but I have always done what I needed to do to make my educational opportunities happen; be it using my younger cousins hand-me-down sleeping bag and poncho to go to a science sleep away camp (SEEKERS!), or applying to over 30 scholarships to be able to afford college (HU…You Know #HOWARDBISON) or working fulltime and going to grad school fulltime (have you ever traveled from Laurel, MD to Notrthwest DC then to Baltimore all in one day…try doing it 3 days a week and somehow getting school work done #AUEAGLES)!
Here I am again doing what I need to do because I know the importance of education! This is a big next step for me to truly make my vison board come to life! I am excited yet overwhelmed!

To make this fellowship happen I will have to:
-work really long hours since the sessions are on workdays and my job can’t be done with me missing lots of hours
-reach into my support system to have my baby girl picked up from school since the sessions are until 10pm and there are a few out of town trips as well
-most importantly, I will have to PAY for it…. This is where you come in! (Though some of you might also get a call about some babysitting needs as well LOL)
Approximate Total cost: $4350
$2850—tuition
$1000—required trips and conferences (3 total)
$500—auxiliary costs (such as baby sitting, books, transportation costs, networking events etc)
My job has promised up to $500 towards the cost. Please give what you can and if you can’t give money hit me up with some encouragement- a call, email, text, FB sticker, carrier pigeon something to help remind me of why I do what I do!
Thank you for you support and love,
