I'd like you to meet my mother, Rebecca Byron. She's a hard-working, compassionate, dedicated single mother who's facing a potentially devestating health issue. Becky works hard to provide for her family, support her daughter, and recover after the loss of her father.
At the end of July, Becky went into the emergency room with pains in her chest, under the impression that she had a pulled muscle or something affecting the heart. Her heart was found to be in good condition, but a serious issue was discovered after undergoing a CT scan. Doctors found multiple nodules in her right lung, lesions on the sternum and ribs, and enlarged spleen, liver, and pulmonary lymph nodes. Doctors immediately sat her down and spoke the word we all dreaded to hear: cancer. An oncologist was brought in and further testing was immediately ordered.
She was found to have squamous non-small cell cancer of undetermined primary. It's a rare form of cancer and there's currently no hint as to where it's started, but it is treatable. Unfortunately, at this stage, there is no cure. Becky is determined to have great quality of life and several years left with her family, but part of that depends on being able to cover expenses of the treatment. The money raised through this GoFundMe will go towards medical bills, travel, lodging during out-of-town treatment, and everyday expenses that will not be covered while she's out of work.
The Byron family needs a lot of support at this time. We know that our strength and love for one another will help pull us through this difficult time. Becky has a fighting spirit, a positive attitude, and wishes to battle her illness with everything she's got in order to be around for her family for a very long time.
