Greig's Get-Rid-Of-Cancer Fund

Greig has been diagnosed with Prostate Cancer. And even though great advances in cancer treatment have been made over recent years, which certainly makes us hopeful, Greig’s type of cancer is very aggressive, so his doctor has recommended surgery as soon as possible. Surgery will be performed at the VA hospital in Los Angeles, approximately three hundred miles away from home. Going there is necessary so that he won’t have to wait too long to have the surgery, and to decrease the chances of it spreading. As of this writing, surgery is set for June 16, 2016.
All of this has come at a time when we are still struggling financially after Judy’s heart attack at the end of February, 2015. That was a huge financial burden to us and we were just beginning to see the light at the end of that proverbial tunnel before it turned out to be the Cancer Train, which has derailed our budget once again. Greig’s new diagnosis is going to place an additional financial burden on us that we just cannot bear at this time. And so we find ourselves humbled and in the awkward position of asking for your help.
We have no idea what our actual financial burden is going to be so we are only guessing at this point. It will depend a great deal on the outcome of his surgery and possible ongoing treatments following the surgery. The VA is helping with a lot of the costs but it doesn’t cover everything, including co-pays for his medications, Judy’s time off of work, much of which will be unpaid, or additional travel costs and other expenses so that she can be in Los Angeles with Greig, and who knows what else at this point.
We’re hoping to raise $2,500 to help with the costs of transportation not covered by the VA, including airfare, car rental and food, as well as Judy’s unpaid time off of work, plus other incidentals for Greig’s stay in the hospital and for a few creature comforts for him at home after surgery, such as loose clothing and more healthy food. We also need help with auto repairs so Judy can get Greig to and from local appointments. (Judy has not been able to use her own car for any of the travel because the transmission is now officially “shot,” is no longer drivable, and she cannot afford to have it fixed at this time. Greig’s truck is also in bad condition and too big for Judy to drive.)
