Stacey and I became friends when her son became one of my first clients in my educational practice. We had many laughs about the trevails of motherhood and shared many tears over supporting a child who learned differently. When I became divorced, Stacey was one of the first people to make sure I was included in social outings.
Today Stacey needs help and support. After being downsized from her position, Stacey decided to return to school to increase her website design skills; the week of finals she found herself ill, unable to leave her bed. She thought she had come down with the flu, but after becoming sicker and sicker, she dragged herself to Urgent Care for antibiotics.
Stacey and her children were shocked to discover that Stacey instead had cancer (leukemia) and her bowel had been perforated due to a comprised immune system. After spending a month in the hospital, Stacey is now home although she is still undergoing daily chemo treatments. Between this round of treatment and the next round, Stacey will need a heart procedure as the arsenic in her chemo treatment is aggravating the rhythm of her heartbeat. She has been rushed to the emergency room twice to restart her heart since starting treatment.
With the love and support of her three children, Stacey is trying to stay positive and focus on becoming healthy again. However, she needs help from her community financially. She is too tired, weak, and nauseated to work or go to school. In addition, there are not family members who can help support Stacey during her treatments. There are not any more corners to cut; bills are piling up and Stacey does not have means to pay them.
Please consider making a donation to support a loving mom, a good friend, and a long-time Bainbridge community member.
Thank you,
Lydia Harrison
