The Houlihan's Flood Fund

Hi Friends and Family,

4 Generations in 1 family home. Gone. Just like that.

My family has lived in Simonton since my grandparents moved there in the late '60s.  This is where I have called “home” for so many years, and where my parents, David and Mary Houlihan, my sisters, Alexis and Kiele, and my niece and nephew, AJ, 2 years and Leightyn, 5 months, call home now.  That was until May 28, 2016.

Everyone knows them.   David has the automotive shop, Country Service Center in downtown Simonton.   Mary has been involved over the years with the community in many ways.  I call them "Mom and Dad".   You may call them your family member, your friend, your mechanic, your co-worker, the person you can call on and you know they will be there to help.  Sadly, right now, they need our help.

Over all the years of being on the family property and all the floods we have been through previously, the land has flooded, but the homes were never close to getting water.   The ladies would pack up and head out while Dad would enjoy peace and quiet (a treat he rarely gets with a full house)  and keep an eye on things.  However, Sunday , May 29th he was forced to pack the boat and evacuate as the water was coming up quickly.  Both of the homes on the property were engulfed with 2 & 1/2 feet of water and sat for 13 days while we waited for the water to recede enough for us to get back in and assess the damage.

To say my family is devastated is an understatement.   We have lost so many family treasures (4 generations worth). This really was a home that was FULL of memories, but the biggest loss itself will be the home that Grandma and Grandpa built with love and laughter.

As I mentioned above, my family has been through many floods over the years with no harm to either home. Because of this, the decision was made years ago to no longer carry flood insurance.

With this beautiful property needing a full renovation, and all home/farm essentials needing to be replaced, I am creating this fund to enable family and friends to help my family move forward in re-building our "home".   We will be forever grateful.

With love,
