On behalf of my family, I would like to thank you for visiting this page and taking the time to read about this memorial fundraiser. On May 31st, my sister received the call that every person dreads. The investigator on the line informed her that her husband was found deceased. To make matters even worse, she was also informed that he had taken his own life. My brother-in-law, Yao Lor, lost his battle to depression and anxiety. Unbeknownst to his family and friends, he was battling demons inside his head that lead him to end the anguish and pain he lived daily. He was 39 years old and leaves behind his wife and 8 young children.
In his last year of life, he was able to take the family to Disneyland for the first time, went on spur of the moment trips to the beach and LA, and worked for a renowned university – UC Davis. Yao was the sole provider for his family and worked hard to maintain a home and put food on the table. On the outside, he was a very well put together person, but in the inside, he was broken. I’ve been told that you can never understand depression, unless you’ve gone through it. I’ve never gone through depression, but I understand that in order for someone to choose death over life, that person must have been in such utter pain that death was the only option. People who commit suicide don’t want to end their lives, they just want to end their pain. May Yao finally rest in peace and may God bless the family he leaves behind.
Now my sister is left to pick up the pieces, arrange his funeral, and try to make life as normal as possible for her kids. She was a stay-at-home-mom and will need all the support she can get. Our family humbly ask for your assistance in this tragic time. All donations will be used to cover funeral expenses and to provide financial support to my sister, niece, and nephews.
Any kind of donation would mean the world to my family and I. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers. God Bless all of you!
