Help Darnell Beat the Brain Tumor

On September 18, 2020, an unforeseen seizure sent Darnell to the Emergency room. With Darnell having no prior history of seizures they ran a series of test to determine the cause. After multiple CT scans and MRIs they discovered a brain tumor.    Darnell had been having headaches, but like many of us, didn't give them much thought, took a Motrin and got on with his busy life and career as an electrician. It wasn’t until the news of the tumor that the headaches started to make sense. They informed Darnell that he has a malignant brain tumor the size of a golf ball on the right side of his brain. They told him that he’s either going to need surgery or chemo/radiation. They also informed him that due to the seizures they’ve contacted the DMV and suspended his license. Due to this trying time, Darnell was without medical insurance and because of that, the doctors at Kaiser Permanente’s Emergency Room told Darnell that they could no longer help him because “Nobody wants to work for free.” So they packed him up and sent him on his way. After weeks of looking for an affordable heath care option, Darnell finally found one and was able to be seen again. He switched his insurance to Mercy Dignity Health. Since then, they have been monitoring the tumor through MRIs. Now the tumor is growing and beginning to affecting his daily life. If left unchecked this tumor can cause paralysis, severe disability and eventually be fatal.    His team of physicians have scheduled him to have a Temporal Craniotomy for Tumor Resection in December. It is an inpatient procedure which will have him in the hospital from anywhere between 2-4 days. While prepping for surgery Darnell started to check off on a list of him to complete before surgery. They were pretty routine things like EKG, MRI and bloodwork. The week of Thanksgiving he completed his bloodwork and found out his hemoglobin levels were dangerously low. His levels here at 4.2 while the normal level is between 8-12. He had to undergo two blood transfusions and a colonoscopy. He stayed in the hospital for three days through Thanksgiving.   Since Darnell is currently unable to work or drive he is in need of our help. Medical bills, prescriptions, transportation and the cost of living in the Bay Area alone are more than disability insurance will cover. He faces several months at home recovering after his treatment and will need our help. Medical expenses, rent, meals and accommodations are estimated to be approximately 10,000 dollars.    We hope that with the help of family, friends, and the community we can raise enough funds to meet his needs and lessen the stress he is going through so that he can remain as healthy and comfortable as possible as he goes through this ordeal.    We understand that this is a rough and trying time with so much uncertainty for everyone.    We are very grateful and appreciative of any and all help our community can find it in their hearts to give.   Thank You All and God Bless.
