Hello everyone!
First a little backstory. My brother Tony was involved in a bad motorcycle accident on Monday, November 30, 2020 in Springfield, Mo. Tony suffered a very serious traumatic brain injury, had his spleen removed, as well as had his left leg amputated above the knee. He went through a pretty intense surgery upon entering the hospital, and has since had to have two more. The first subsequent surgery was to help relieve some of the pressure in his skull. He had to have part of his skull removed to allow for swelling. The third surgery was to modify/clean up the amputation, and close the abdominal incision from the first surgery.
Tony is currently in a coma. He is also on a ventilator. At present time Tony is unable to respond to any verbal commands (i.e. move any extremities, squeeze your hand, flinch, etc), respond to light (pupils are not constricting, dilating, or moving), or respond to touch. He had an MRI done Friday (12/4/20), and he has significant injuries to his frontal lobe. But, his neurologist told me that he believes there is something worth fighting for. We are giving Tony as much time as he needs to allow the swelling of the brain to go down and see if he begins to regain some consciousness. His prognosis is still bleak at the moment, but we're praying as hard as we can and have hope that if anyone can come out of this, it is our stubborn brother.
My brothers and I were there to stay the week with him. But, as many of you may know, we live 7 hours away from the hospital that he is in. We had to come home for a few days to take care of our households and families. Marice, Marcus, Cliff, Lauren, and myself plan on going back to be with Tony frequently, as we do not have much family in the Springfield, Mo area. We are typically not the types to ask for help, but we're afraid that the cost of travel may get to much to bear. Also, Tony did not have medical insurance or (GOD FORBID THE WORST HAPPENS) life insurance. So, we are reaching out to our friends and family to ask for help. Any little bit is beneficial! I fully understand that it is the holiday season and everyone has to look out for and provide for their own families. If you cannot afford to help we completely understand. We just ask you say a prayer for our family right now! If you feel moved to offer assistance, I would like to thank you in advance. My family, and myself, truly appreciate all of the generosity, prayers, and offers for help that have already been extended. It is a very trying time, and it will be very financially draining as well. All money that is collected will be used for travel to/from Springfield, medical expenses, as well as anything else that Tony may need.
In closing, I'd like to wish you all a very happy holiday season. Hold your family close! Give that extra hug, that extra kiss, and be sure to tell your loved ones how much you love them!! Life is extremely fragile and precious. I will provide updates on this page.
