Canowindra's Sally Wallace has capped off a remarkable year in triathlon gaining selection in the Australia Triathlon squad to compete at the ITU World Championships to be held in Mexico in September after only being involved in the sport for two years.
Competing over the Sprint Distance, which consists of a 750 metre swim, a 20km bike ride and a 5km run, Sally gained selection following a medal haul that would be the envy of any athlete.
Competing in the 65-69 age group Sally finished the year as the NSW Tri Series Sprint champion as well as winning the Elite Energy Tri Series for her age group.
She also won the Central West Interclub title for her age group in a series of races between Cowra, Mudgee, Bathurst and Dubbo clubs.
During the season Sally finished first in world title qualifying races at Penrith and Canberra, both of which were automatic qualifiers for the world titles. She was also runner up in the first qualifying race of the season, the Jackie Fairweather Memorial race held in Canberra last September.
Sally competed in a number of non qualifying races during the season including at one of the biggest triathlon festivals in NSW, at Huskisson on the south coast where she finished in second place. She stood on top of the podium in races at Nowra and Port Stephen to wrap up the season.
Sally qualified for the Australian team in the Duathlon World championships in Spain this month but she has elected not to attend this event.
Being a member of the Australian team is an honour and a privilege as all athletes have to fully fund themselves in order to attend. Each athlete is required to pay a Triathlon Australia Team fee, as well as the cost of race entry, race suit, flights and accommodation.
Sally would be very grateful for some financial support to help her get to Mexico to compete in the Triathlon World Championship.
