Did anyone else see Mr. Colvin's touching Facebook post? I am sitting in a hotel room in Baltimore lucky enough to travel the country with my daughter to play lacrosse and his post hit me hard! No one deserves a vacation upgrade more the Colvin Family (if you didn't already know his wife is also a teacher. She teaches history at the high school). I thought I would post this page to see if anyone else wants to contribute to a vacation upgrade fund and surprise this sweet family. I have unfriended them both so they will not see this post. Anyone who contributes will get an email next week about a meeting spot (I am aiming for Wednesday night at 8 pm) so we can all surprise him with this well deserved gift of gratitude!
Here is Mr. Colvins post that prompted this page:
I'm a middle school science teacher. I don't make a ton of money. I am in a profession that is constantly criticized. I get excited about getting to wear jeans on Fridays, sad I know. I usually tutor 2 to 3 hours each night after school so that we can afford a summer vacation. I am the only man core teacher at my school. But....... I get to spend an hour a day with 130 of the most amazing kids year after year. In this picture I am wearing a shirt given to me by one of my favorite students, socks from another awesome student. In the picture is a tree given to me by two seniors, Riley Walker and Courtney Manning. They gave me a plant when they were in 8th grade because "all teachers love plants" Riley's mom said. They have returned every year on the last day of school to give me a plant. I have received a fern, a cactus, an aloe, a tomato plant, and now the grand finale a redbud tree. I sometimes get overwhelmed with my role as a teacher. It is such a hard job at times and so rewarding at times. The rewards are immeasurable. I have been so rewarded this year! I am truly a rich man.
