Help young dad who suffered stroke

Donation protected
Hello all, my name is Tanya Mitchell. I have begun this campaign on behalf of my brother, Shane Mitchell, who suffered a massive stroke on Friday morning, August 19, 2016.

Shane is a 37-year-old father of five, with children who range in age from 5 to 16. He's always been a hard working guy who loves being a dad, and looks forward to things like hosting backyard bonfires and his annual family camping and fishing trips.

This unexpected turn of events has left my brother and his family in a very scary position, financially, as he lacks medical insurance and his bills for treatment of the stroke and associated complications have already grown to an unmanageable amount. He will also need to undergo a lot of rehabilitation, even after he is released from Maine Medical Center in Portland, where he is currently being treated.

In addition, the City of Portland is about two hours away from my brother's home town of Searsmont, and the funds raised here could also assist his family with covering the expenses that come with traveling back and forth between the hospital and home (gas, the occasional hotel stay, etc.). This way, Shane's kids would be able to visit with him more often during his recovery, and I know that would make him very happy!

So, with the permission of his wife, Amanda, I decided to turn to GoFundMe.com in an effort to make this difficult time a little easier for Shane and his family going forward.

I think it was Jean Baptiste Legouve who said, "A brother is a friend given by Nature." There's a lot of truth to that; I don't really remember a time in my life when my brother wasn't there - I was two when he was born - and I really believe that my life has been so much better because he's been in it! We can go months without seeing each other, and when we do, we can sit there and talk and laugh like we just saw each other yesterday.  We had a great time growing up together, shared a lot of the same friends (we still do!), and we've always been able to count on each other when things got rough.

Well now, things are getting a bit rough again, yes, but I'd like to show Shane that with the support of family, friends, and sometimes total strangers, we can help him get through this, too!

Whether you are able to pitch in $1 or $20, every contribution is so very meaningful to Shane's family! From the bottom of my heart, thank you all so much for considering contributing to this campaign, and please keep my brother in your thoughts and prayers!

With gratitude,
Tanya Mitchell
