My name is Jose "Pepe" Sanchez. I am an 81 year old retiree who needs your help to visit my beloved 11 year old German Shepherd, Sheba, who is at Best Friends Animal Sanctuary in Kanab, Utah. She was imprisoned at Devore Kill Pound in San Bernardino County for 18 months, after the County confiscated her for being in a scuffle with another dog (the other dog is fine). During that time she was never allowed out of her tiny cement cell. The County refused to return Sheba to me and ordered her to be killed. I fought to save her life and her story gained international attention. Thanks to the efforts of animal advocates, the County finally agreed to release Sheba, on November 14, 2020, to Best Friends Animal Sanctuary in Kanab, Utah, which is 600 miles from my home. The money being collected is for me to be able to visit with her now and in the future. She had been used to seeing me three times a week for the 18 months during which she was imprisoned. Donations are needed to continue our visits at Best Friends. Because of my age, I cannot travel alone, so I need someone to accompany me. The expenses for each trip for me and my driver include: $90 per night during off-season or $130 per night during peak season for the room (3 night, 4 day stay); gas money to and from my home in Running Springs, CA, to Best Friends; expense money for food for two people; possible $250 deposit for a rental car if a different driver is needed.
Please donate so that Sheba and I can continue to be in each other’s lives. We miss each other terribly! After Sheba has passed, I would like to have her cremated and her ashes returned to me, with the permission of Best Friends. Any surplus funds will then be donated to Best Friends in Sheba’s memory.
