Help save Oscar’s from Covid Winter 2020

Way back on March 16th, Oscar’s closed our doors for what we thought was going to be just a few weeks. It was the first time we closed our doors in the 48 years we’ve been open. We were all doing our part to help stop this pandemic. During the time we were shut down, our community came together to help our staff. Our gofund me page raised money for our employees. Luckily with help from a small local bank, we received a small PPP loan. The big banks, even the one we use put us so far back in the application line, getting a loan looked impossible. We applied for city grants, SBA grants, even a verizon grant. As many of us know, the little guys often get over looked. We were turned down by everyone. The small amount of funds we received are long gone. We were able to reopen for outdoor dining for a short time. It was great to see everyone back eating cheesesteaks and having a beer!! Unfortunately the time did not last. The city has closed indoor dining just as the temperature is dropping making outdoor dining at night almost impossible. We all know how small bars are closing all around the city. We don’t have the funds or space to build these outdoor wooden, heated structures that are popping up all over the city. The big restaurants can spend upwards of 60k on these structures. So, many of your favorite small bars are left out in the cold. We are trying our best to make it through a dark winter for Philadelphia. Instead of shutting our doors today, we are going to try to stay open for as long as we can. But we need your help. As you know, bills don’t stop just because we aren’t seeing our loyal customers anymore. It is our greatest wish to see everyone on the other side of this pandemic. We hope that all restaurants make it through the hardest winter we’ve ever seen. Unfortunately that probably won’t happen. If you’re lucky and this pandemic has not financially devastated your industry, please give what you can. Not only to us, but to all the small restaurants you love. Help our industry survive this winter so we can be there to serve you this Spring. Thank you!!
