After many months of extensive talks and planning, we are very excited to announce that the Trojan Wrestling team has been given the okay to turn the cardio room on the second floor of the gym building into a wrestling room! The cardio room was once a wrestling room back in the 90's and it is going to be once again.
Having our own wrestling room will allow us to do many things. It will allow our wrestlers to spend more time in practice to actually wrestle as they will no longer have to worry about getting the mats down, rolling them out, rolling them up, etc. With our own wrestling room we won't have to worry about booking the gym or sharing the gym, it will be at our desposal 24/7. The most important thing is that it will be somewhere the team can call home. Not just home for current wrestlers but any Trojan wrestler who has ever come through before and also every Trojan wrestler who comes after this. This will be a wrestling room where everyone is welcome.
After the room is cleared of all its cardio equipment the walls will have to be matted along with the floors. A Trojan Wrestling record board will go up along with other Trojan Wrestling decals and decorations. Between the wrestling mat, the wall mats and everything else we are looking at around $10,000 total.
Trojan Wrestling has a very long and prideful history. Thousands of people have contributed to its history. This program has helped build and shape kids into adults and more importantly, good people. We want to build off of that and take the program to new heights. Anyone who has ever been a part of a wrestling team knows that it truly takes a village to build a successful program. One wrestler cannot make a wrestling team great, that is one of the many great things about this sport. Building this wrestling room is no different, not one person can do it alone but if everyone pitches in, it can be done.
The lessons learned from wrestling stick with you for the rest of your life. Being a Trojan wrestler is a commitment to pushing yourself every day to be a better teammate, worker, scholar and human being than you were before so words cannot describe how appreciative we would be to reach our goal.
