Donated Amish Cooling Cot in Honor Of Sterling
In honor of our precious son, Sterling Khaled Shreim, who was born sleeping on 10/26/2020 at 35 weeks gestation, we are doing a fundraiser to raise the money to donate an Amish Cooling Cot to the hospital where he was born. Unless you have been in our position, you probably don't know what a cooling cot is. So, let me tell you about it and also share why this is so important to families like ours when they lose their little ones.
A cooling cot is a temperature controlled bassinet used in many hospitals for stillborn babies or babies that pass away after birth. The unit regulates the baby's temperature to slow down the natural effects of degradation of the post mortem body. What most people may not realize (and what we also did not realize) is just how quickly this happens. As a parent who is already struggling coming to terms with the loss of their child, watching this process unfold is gut wrenching. The cooling cot allows parents like us extra time with their child before leaving the hospital with empty arms and broken hearts. It allows parents time to bond, have pictures taken, family and friends to also come see the baby, and far more time to create some memories that they can carry with them forever.
Our goal with this donation is to allow other parents the opportunity to have more time. While money isn't supposed to be able to buy time, in cases such as these it absolutely can. And that is priceless. We hope that we can use this gift to smooth this painful path a tiny bit for others who will soon be walking along behind us. We can't take away their pain, nor can anyone take ours away (and we wouldn't want them to), but we can absolutely help. We implore our village, all of you reading this, to please help us. Please help us buy these families more time with their precious babies in honor of our perfect son, Sterling.
