Hi everyone, Shelby Macleod has been fighting a battle with Aplastic Anemia for over nine months, this battle is definitely one of the hardest things my little girl has had to face and for our family to watch. Aplastic Anemia is when your own bone marrow fails to produce its own red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets. Before all the terrifying things my baby has been through, she ended up with a viral hepatitis of the liver which lead to her diagnosis. Shelby has went through the ATG treatment which failed to work, she became deathly ill. What I mean by deathly ill is, she first had an ammonia problem we’re the ammonia in her blood completely rose through the roof and caused Shelby to be in a coma for 9 days. Within a very short amount of time Shelby ended up being rushed into surgery for her bowel, they removed one fourth of her bowel, giving her a ileostomy. During this tragic surgery it took 16 litres of blood to save her life, she was then in another coma. Shelby has went and still continues to go through so many complications on a daily basis including everyday hospital trips for IV fluids, bloodwork, transfusions, etc. She was on dialysis for months. Her kidneys and liver have been put through so much that they are sick from all the damage. They thought I was going to lose my baby girl three times. We just found out recently that she has to head to Toronto within the next week or two where she will be getting ready for a bone marrow transplant which is sadly the last option for cure, no other treatment has worked or helped Shelby stay stable on her own. Shelby will be in Toronto Sick Kids hospital for over three months receiving this transplant. We need help raising money for the travelling back and forth, food, places to stay, plane tickets to get to Toronto and for things that are needed along the way. Even a couple dollars helps.
