Help my son Todd TJ Laurer get medical care needed
Donation protected
My son Todd (TJ) Laurer was diagnosed in July 2020 with Stage 4, Decompensated Liver, End Stage Liver Disease, Jaundice, Hepatic encephalopathy, Ascites, esophageal varices and has a MELD score of 33 (the MELD score ranges from 6 to 40, and is a measure of how severe a patient’s liver disease is, the higher the number, the sicker the liver). His liver is severely damaged to the point that a living donor is not an option, he needs a full liver transplant. We are humbled by having to reach out for support, but in a time like this, we know our pride has to go by the wayside in order to fight for Todd’s life. We are looking at months, not years with him.
Over the last couple of months, Todd’s health has worsened, heavily impacting his ability to work and function normally. He has consistently been in and out of the hospital and his end-stage-liver-disease has affected his other organs. He has lost an extreme amount of weight and muscle, from 195 pounds to 115 pounds.
In July I drove to Wilcox, AZ, where, for the past 15 years, he has been working and living on his in-laws pecan farm, in order to bring him home and hopefully help him to get strong enough to survive a surgery. With the help of my sister Kathy and a lot of prayers, we have been able to get Todd on the correct medication, correct diet and he has gained 20 pounds. Todd has been in touch with Dr. Siti and with the weight gain stated it was time for him to return to the Wilcox/Tucson area and meet with the transplant center to begin the evaluation/eligibility process of liver transplant. We were ecstatic to hear that he would soon be getting the help he needs and seeing his daughter.
Unfortunately, returning to Wilcox, AZ, is no longer an option.
Not having a place to stay near his doctors is why I am starting a GOFUNDME on Todd’s behalf. Years of being paid $12,000 a year has made it impossible for Todd to have any type of savings. He needs to be in Tucson to get the help he needs to live. He has filed for disability and unemployment and is waiting on the decision.
The funds will be used to help him get a studio apartment near St. Joseph’s hospital in Tucson, transportation to his appointments, medications, the transplant itself, and after-care.
Out of all the struggles this year, this has been the hardest, no parent should outlive their child... I know we are not the only ones struggling. I know this has been a hard year for everyone, and that you may not be in the best financial position to make a contribution, but please know that if you can give it will be greatly appreciated from the bottom of our hearts. Your contributions will be helping to save the life of wonderful son, a caring brother, a loving nephew, a loving father, a loyal friend, and so much more.
If you aren't able to donate, please pray for Todd and we ask you take a moment to post this link on your social media. Any share or donation would mean the world to us.
Blessings to you all. Stay close to your loved ones. Life is precious.
