Katy Yates and I are starting this as a memorial for Johnny, who was hit and killed by a car recently. Although I never knew him on a personaI level, I absolutely loved every conversation I had with the man. John was so well known in the valley that some people considered him our “mascot”. Our intention for all of this is be be a community effort. He was the most harmless and kindest person I’ve ever had the opportunity of meeting. I’m not doing this for any personal gain, but for the fact that he was so well known in the area and deserves some type of a memorial. Every cent from this will go towards something to remember John by. He was a good man, despite how some may have seen him. John was truly a one of a kind human, and he deserves to be remembered because I don’t think he understood the impact he had on the residents of the valley. He was a good man.
Update, Dec, 1st.
The community has voiced sadness, grief and compassion ever since John’s passing.
We are entirely grateful for the advice and support the community has shown as well as the donations!
As far as we know, the overall consensus is that a Memorial bench in Locomotive Park would be most fitting to remember him by. Cody contacted his daughter as well, and she agreed.
We are getting the ball rolling, I have contacted City Hall and have left a message with Parks and Rec. As soon as we figure out all of the logistics, we will let you know more!
There is a facebook event saying John’s candlelight vigil is Dec. 1st at 7:30pm at Locomotive Park. (Although this event is not associated with our GoFundMe page).
Again, Thank you for all of your help! We are so astounded with the amount of support we have gotten!
