During this entire experience, so many of our friends and family have reached out and asked us how they could help. I just wasn't sure what anyone could do and then we had this idea. The road will be long and expensive, they will need resources. Here is the story of Shawn's family support need.
On August 10, Shawn was in a serious car accident. He was air lifted to Halifax Medical Center. His lungs were in a critical state and he fought for 20 days while in a medically induced coma with a ventilator. Once he could be positioned safely for surgery, he had 3 serious surgeries performed. The surgeries included a femur, hip/pelvis and back. The most difficult injury is a bruised spinal cord. You can imagine our relief that he survived those injuries and could be weened off of the ventilator successfully.
Shawn is currently working to rehabilitate at Brooks inpatient facility at Halifax. He has long schedules each day that include occupational and physical therapy. While we don't know how long he will be here, we know he has a long, hard road of recovery ahead of him. Shawn is up for the challenge and is committed to being fully recovered, no matter how long it takes.
He and Caroline have 2 beautiful girls, Aubrey Lynn and Evelyn Rae, as well as a 3rd one on the way. Our 3rd little bundle of joy is due in late October.
They have a large network of friends and family. With the uncertain road ahead, any and all available resources will be used to support their family. We appreciate any help you are willing and able to contribute. Thank you from this entire family.
