Leo's Relocation Expenses

Hello, all! My name is Leondre’ Queen. In December 2015, I earned my bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology - Health and Physical Education from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. While at UL Lafayette, I was inducted into Phi Kappa Phi National Honor Society, named to the Who’s Who Amongst Students at American Colleges and Universities, received the Excellence in Community Service Award, earned the College of Education and Alumni Association Fall 2015 overall Outstanding Graduate awards, and graduated with magna cum laude honors. As special as all of these laurels are, they serve a much greater purpose; all are direct testaments to my solemnity within my field and community.
During my time in Lafayette, I participated in a variety of events and organizations that would provide me with practical experience in the realm of sports and athletics. Some of these endeavors included my appointment as Diversity Chairman for the Louisiana Association of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance, being a fundraising liaison for the school’s chapter of Kinesiology Professionals Association, and K-12 teacher-intern assignments. It was not until I served as a three-season equipment manager for the Ragin’ Cajuns football program that my career aspirations became clearer. As a manger, I found my involvement to be beneficially enriching; these engagements have moved me to pursue advanced studies.
Following careful thought and deliberation, I have made the decision to continue my education at Mississippi State University in order to pursue my Master of Science degree in Sport Administration, beginning in the Fall 2016 semester. At Mississippi State, I will be able to work alongside credible faculty, staff, and peers while meeting all of my personal and professional objectives. After residing in Louisiana for all of my life, I feel as if it is the appropriate time to explore. A major component of my decision to relocate corresponds with my belief that a change in physical and scholastic settings enhance one’s versatility in terms of experience and exposure to varying ideas and methods. I aim to challenge myself by creating a “comfortably uncomfortable” setting.
Upon completion of my graduate program, I plan to pursue a long-lasting career in collegiate athletics. I am often questioned about why I desire to do such a thing. If one would have asked me this question two or three years ago, I would have provided him or her with an unsubstantial response. If asked today, I can truly say that with years of exposure, learning, and understanding, I know my life purpose. I want to be a valuable influence in young men’s lives. As legendary football coach, Tony Dungy, stated in one of his memoirs, Uncommon, we must choose influence over image in order to live to our fullest potential. In a world where our young men are regularly misinformed about what truly constitutes “being a man”, I feel as though it is my mission to properly guide them. It does not take much effort to live for the benefit of ourselves. However, it takes an “uncommon” individual to live for the sole purpose of serving others. This is what I plan to do throughout my life. I can confidently attest that I am serious about my future and the goals in which I have set forth to achieve.
Even though I am immensely excited about the upcoming move (in August) and continuing my education, I am also cognizant of the fact that relocation costs can and will be a vital factor in and of itself. Since these expenses will undoubtedly pose challenges, I am graciously asking for donations to assist with moving expenses. My goal for this fundraiser is $3,500. The donations will be used to cover costs for transportation, expenses that will accrue from settling into my new living arrangement, and a bevy of other unknowns. I need assistance in jump-starting my transition. Any donation will be greatly appreciated! This next sequence of events in the coming months will be some of the greatest I have made thus far, on an individual basis. I would like to extend a huge thank you in advance and express genuine gratitude towards all who have believed in both me and the mission that I am on! I am forever grateful. God bless!
