One of my fourth grade students became homeless yesterday. She is the child of a single dad who ensures that she is always prepared for school, wears her uniform everyday, turns in all her homework on time, and is a wonderful, straight "A" student.
I recently gave an assignment where students had to research an animal and create an informational brochure. They had the choice to hand write or type the brochure. She chose to type it , but doesn't have a computer at home. She spent all of her lunch breaks for almost 3 weeks on the classroom computer researching and creating her brochure. She had such an excellent product that I made copies for all the students to use as an exemplar. She also helped other students to create their brochures. She is so determined and helpful to others.
Check her out on my class website. She is our student of the month!
They couldn't afford the rent.
