On May 8, 2013, my husband suffered a life-changing injury. For the previous 19 years, our family traveled together presenting theatrical works in churches, universities, prisons, and rehabs in the states and abroad. The message was focused on bringing healing, truth, and freedom to broken people.
Following his first surgery, we kept thinking that we would go back to performing as soon as the 12 -week recovery period ended. One surgery has led to another, however, and over time, it has become apparent that our lives are changed.
I had been tutoring our daughter as we traveled which dovetailed into supervising her studies at a local junior college by attending along with her. When the accident occurred, I started thinking of finishing my own degree just in case we wouldn’t be able to continue performing. Nursing had been a passion since childhood as I had volunteered for the American Red Cross, trained with the Jr. Lifeguards in Long Beach, and worked as a nursing assistant at the Long Beach Veteran’s Administration.
I applied to CBU in Riverside and was accepted. The university has given me a generous scholarship for academic achievement, but there is still a considerable balance. This fall will be my 4th semester of 6, but I have the next 3 months off of school. Being someone who needs to be productive, I have decided to spend the next 90 days volunteering is these areas: applying the nursing process to homeless people in shelters and in their public spaces by assessing individuals, determining their personal needs, finding ways to meet those needs, and then evaluating the level of effectiveness. I will document every hour of the work I do for those who contribute. I would also like to spend 15 of those days at Camp Alandale for foster children in Idyllwild assisting in medical care and working as a counselor.
Letters of recommendation, as well as my resume and college transcript are all available to any who like to view them. The money raised with this campaign will go towards living expenses this summer as well as college tuition for this Fall semester. Please consider standing with me at this time, as I will make the most of your investment in serving our fellow humans. Thank you so much!
