Hola, mi nombre es Irene Stolz Mejía, tengo 26 años y padezco una enfermedad en la cabeza llamada “Fístulas Espontáneas de Líquido Cefalorraquídeo”, y estoy a punto de entrar a mi 3era operación de cabeza en un mes y quiero contarles un poco más sobre mi.

Actualmente estudio mi 5to año de medicina en la Universidad Rafael Landívar en Guatemala, y hace unas semanas decidimos que ya no podía seguir prolongando más la operación. La enfermedad consiste en pequeñas fístulas que aparecen espontáneamente en la capa que cubre mi cerebro, lo que provoca que el líquido cefalorraquídeo empiece a drenarse por mi oído y principalmente por mi nariz, ocasionándome desmayos casi a diario, y poniendo en riesgo que mi cerebro se quede sin líquido o que el cambio de presión por pérdida de líquido haga que mi vida peligre. He tratado de seguir mi vida, estudios, y días de la forma más normal posible, pero desde hace unos meses los síntomas se han ido intensificando, y he llegado a un punto en que ya deja de ser un estilo de vida seguro o cómodo.

Mi primera operación de cabeza fue en el 2020, luego, en el 2022, tuve otra intervención por medio del oído en donde levantaron mi tímpano para poder operarme endoscópicamente, y quedé con el 80% de audición en el oído izquierdo. Ahora me tienen que operar nuevamente de la cabeza, pero esta vez será más invasiva, costosa y riesgosa. La razón del dinero que estamos pidiendo es por el costo de la operación, dos días en el intensivo, y una semana internada en el hospital. Por lo que esta vez me veo obligada de pedir de su ayuda con la donación o ayuda que les nazca de su corazón, para ayudarme a vencer nuevamente esta batalla y poder cumplir las metas que tengo por delante.

De todo corazón, les agradezco muchísimo cualquier ayuda brindada, oración, o simplemente que puedan compartirlo con sus familiares y amistades para que me ayuden a llegar a mi meta y esto llegue a más oídos.

Hello my name is Irene Stolz Mejía, I’m 26 years old and I suffer a brain disease called “Spontaneous Cerebrospinal Fluid Fistulas”, and I’m about to undergo my 3rd brain surgery in a month and I want to tell you a little bit more about me.

I’m currently studying my 5th year of medicine at Universidad Rafael Landívar in Guatemala, and a couple weeks ago we decided that I couldn’t wait any longer for the surgery. The disease consists of small fistulas that comes out spontaneously in the inside layer that surrounds my brain, which causes the cerebrospinal fluid to drain through my ear and mainly through my nose, causing me to faint almost daily, and putting my brain at risk of running out of liquid or putting my life at risk due to the change of pressure inside. I’ve tried to continue my life, studies, and day-to-day activities as normally as possible, but for the past few months symptoms have been getting worse, and I’ve reached a point where it’s no longer a safe or comfortable lifestyle.

My first brain surgery was back in 2020, then, in 2022, I had another intervention where they went through the ear endoscopically lifting my eardrum, and I ended up with an 80% audition in my left ear. Now I need brain surgery again, but this time it will be more invasive, expensive, and risky. The reason for the fundraising is for the cost of the surgery, two days in the intensive care unit, and a week at the hospital. So this time I have no other choice but to ask for any donation that comes from your heart to help me win this battle and continue to achieve every goal that comes next.
