My name is Nia Barrow-Henderson,

I am saving money so that I may enter the choice of my dream schools. My passion and desire is to be a leader in my community and live to my calling. The character of a Spelman student exemplifies dedication to academic excellence in the liberal arts and sciences and intellectual, creative, ethical, leadership potential. I believe my attributes, goals, and morals are that of a Spelman student. These are the characteristics I hope to reflect on if I am given the opportunity to attend Spelman university. As a value of my upbringing and environment, I am confident in my passion and dedication to serving. I come from a family of military service and emergency service workers. My family on both sides have served in the military, including my grandfathers, my uncles, and my brother, who is currently active. My parents both work in city and county jobs as public servants. My father is an engineer Firefighter, and my mother is a Parks and Recreation Manager for the city of Las Vegas. I hope to leave a legacy that embodies the qualities of the many heroes in my lineage before me. I am the granddaughter of Joe Louis and Martha Louis. Martha Louis was one of the first black female attorneys in the state of California. My Grandfather was the iconic heavyweight champion of the world. As the descendent of revolutionaries, I intend to uphold and succeed in the example set for me. I will be an outstanding citizen and servant of my community and people. My family is a vital point in my life; they inspire me to be a strong intellectual in my field of study, clinical psychiatry, and to find creative ways to spread my passion, contribute to ethical solutions within my society, and finally to be a strong leader within my community.
