My daughter Leanne Sharver Fye, has been facing some very serious health issues. She is 53 and for the biggest part of the last year she has been fighting liver failure. After many hours of classes she is finally ready to be placed on the liver transplant list. She has continued to attempt to work any time she can at Restoration Hardware. They have been very supportive. She only started work there in May of 2015 and began her current medical condition in October 2015. Her insurance coverage has been through Kaiser who also have been very supportive.
She has lived in Modesto for many years but the last 6 years in the townhouse she currently occupys with her 2 cats. Moving would be very difficult and probably not cheaper.
Working only 2 days a week she is not able to stay and concentrate on getting ready for her transplant.
Let me tell you what she has endured in the last 8 months.
She has had 3 Ct scans, 3 ultrasounds, 7 endoscopies, 2 colonoscopies. She also has had x-rays on her intestines and a Gastric Emptying study which resulted in gastroparesis, which inturn makes it hard for her to keep food down. When the liver failure first started she was collecting protein fluid in her abdomen (ascites) and loss of blood (varices). The ascites was resulting in her going in weekly for paracentesis to remove the fluid. And the varices was resulting in consistantly loosing blood, which had her going to the ER weekly for 2-5 bags of blood transfusions. Her Dr. at kaiser recomended a TIPS procedure (Transjugular Intraheptic Portosystemic Shunt) to help with the ascites and varices. She went through the TIPS precedure in the end of January and it has helped, she now only goes to get a paracentesis every month or two and biweekly for 2 bags of blood transfusions. They are still drawing her blood weekly to watch her levels because they can change at any time.
I want to Thank you for taking time to read our story. Any contributions are really appreciated. We need to keep her in her home, comfortable so she can use all her strength to endure the wait for her transplant and then recovery.
