Hiking on a trail in the high Sierras over memorial day weekend my dog saved my life. We were 5 miles in from the trailhead of Blackrock mountain when it happened. Just 30 feet out in front of me was a 5 foot rattlesnake and my dog, Gunner, reached it before I did. The snake bit him on the side of his face . As soon as I realize what happened, I picked him up, threw him over my shoulder and started the 5 mile hike back up the mountain to my car. Five hours later we reached a Veterinary clinic in Lancaster. The doctor gave him an 80% chance of survival . It was the most stressful and terrifying night of my life not knowing whether I would see him again. The next day I got word that he survived and all of the veterinary staff said it was a miracle that such a small dog survived a rattlesnake bite after having the venom in him for five hours before getting treatment. Please donate anything you can to help pay for Gunners remarkable recovery. It would really mean a lot to me and him. Thank you so much! #wesurvivedarattlesnake #gunner_stunner
