In the early hours of Monday morning, November 16, Hurricane Iota struck my husband's homeland, the Archipelago of San Andres, Santa Catalina and Providence Islands as a Category 5 Hurricane. These tiny islands, home to some 50,000 people have been left completely devastated by the hurricane. All three islands are under 10 miles squared, do not have the infrastructure in place to handle hurricane-force winds and rain.

We still have zero communication with family on Providence Island, which was hit the hardest (only 7 kilometers from the eye of the then category 5 hurricane). We do not know if they are safe, if they have a shelter from the continued rain, or food to eat. The island of Providence is completely without electricity, satellite, phone signal.
My husband's family on the island of San Andres and every single family have been affected. Roofs have blown off most homes, and some homes have completely crumbled. An island group with tourism as the sole source of income for most, people have already been in extremely hard times due to the economic depression from the pandemic. The majority of people have zero financial resources to rebuild their homes. It continues to rain, houses continue to flood, damage to their small amount of possessions is imminent, and people lack shelter from the storm. We have not yet heard solid plans for the government on how they will help rebuild homes or even provide temporary shelter. Because of this, we must act now to ensure families have a roof over their heads.
The National Hurricane Center is showing a 40% chance of another hurricane developing in the same area in the next 5 days.
We cannot stand by without action. I ask you for a donation to this campaign to help rebuild homes so that families can seek emergency shelter from the continued rain and next storm. So that their children have a dry bed to lay their heads on.
100% of the funds received will go DIRECTLY to these families. My husband is in San Andres and will coordinate donating purchased supplies to the families in need.
Please consider helping.
