Hi Friends!
My name is Paula Powell and my dear friend, Destiny Brown, is facing a very difficult time ahead and is not going to be able to share her beautiful voice and talented guitar skills for some time while she is awaiting a kidney transplant. As with most all of us, not being able to earn an income, on top of amassing large medical bills, would create tremendously more stress at a time when stress is already high given the situation. My hope is that we, her friends, her community, can and will pitch in to help ease some of that stress through donations.
This is her story in her own words:
Just over seven years ago, I got an incredible gift: my little brother, Coal, gave me a kidney and it changed my life.
Over time, things like medicine complications with insurance and infection have caused my body not to work well enough on its own. This is what I am facing now, and my treatment options are limited to dialysis treatments or a kidney transplant.
Getting regular dialysis treatments, usually three times a week for four hours at a time, will do the job for a little while, but a transplant would offer me more freedom and the ability to live a longer, healthier, more normal, musical life.
I am currently at UAB where I will have my kidney removed on Friday and a temporary dialysis port put into my neck until my vitals are well enough to receive a kidney.
I know it's a big ask, but if you've ever thought about donating and or just want to learn more, please reach out. Even just sharing this could make a huge difference in my life.
Please consider a donation and/or sharing her story with others so a donor is identified as soon as possible.
