Hi everyone, I'm Jessica, Kathleen and Jeff's daughter.
Last Saturday night, an electrical fire broke out in their house while they were in NM visiting their granddaughter and helping my brother and his family move. The fire destroyed half of the house and the entire roof, and the water helped finish the job. They can't even return home. They are currently living in a hotel and have tried to salvage their most prized possessions; the items that are irreplaceable. Everything that enters or leaves the house ends up smelling so badly of smoke that it's almost impossible to clean. The cars smell from putting anything in them as well. Items are beyond repair and those of you who have ever had to deal with insurance claims know what a nightmare it can be.
In the midst of replacing things and morning the loss of their house and home, they are still trying to remain strong and positive. They don't know how to help themselves right now and so they don't know how or what kind of help to reach out for. Thus, I have created a GoFundMe account to help support them and purchase daily living supplies and clothes to get by. They are out of their home for no less than 6 months and will probably be paying out of pocket to replace items that have been destroyed by the fire...the most recent report was that the damage was not normal soot from a fire, but it's sticky residue that is hard to remove and impossible to remove from anything that is porous.
Any kind of help will be greatly appreciated in getting them back on their feet and feeling a little bit "normal" again. Words will never be able to express the outpouring of support we have already received and know we will continue to receive. We appreciate all of our supporters!
