Help a Trans Person Misled By Insurance

Hello all, My name is Luna, You may know me as an artist, a maker, and a long-time resource/ advocate for trans/gender-nonconforming individuals in Colorado. Some time ago, I recieved a gender affirming surgery at the Denver Health Medical Center. My insurance at the time (Medicaid) was confirmed numerous months prior to the operation and approved once more on the morning of the procedure. The operation was an overwhelming success! My care was superb, and I couldn't be happier! ...That is, until I was woken up by a call that claimed I had no insurance coverage, and the full cost of the operation ($11,596.16) had officially become my financial responsibility. Myself and my incredible team of nurses spent a number of months communicating with financial representatives in order to get to the bottom of the problem: We learned that my insurance was cancelled a matter of days before the procedure, and I had not recieved a notification. My coverage was able to be run/approved on the morning of surgery because the cancellation was so recent that The Hospital's records hadn't been updated yet. If you know me well, you know that asking for/accepting help isn't my typical style. I understand that times are difficult for everyone right now, and I am grateful for any assistance that one can provide. Thank you.
