Support Nick Hogle

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place.  In late October, we learned that Nick's cancer is back.  Many of you rallied in support of Nick back in 2016, when he fought and won(!) his first fight against testicular cancer.  Through surgery and chemotherapy, you poured out your love in visits, meals, gifts, and kind words of encouragement.  Nick, being the an indefatigable optimist, powered through months of treatments and managed to focus on the positives, like the great puzzles and snacks at his treatment center, the chemo port that made treatments easier and his stellar prognosis.  Almost 4 years later, he's facing cancer again. Nick has been experiencing some abdominal discomfort, so his new oncologist at Kaiser decided to order his annual scan about a month early.  They found two new spots, in additional to the original calcified spot, on his lymph node. One of them is sizable, and near his kidney.  Doc has also found a small spot in his lungs. Nick will be getting another round of chemotherapy, followed by surgery to remove the remaining tumors.  The oncologist advises him to act quickly and get his first round of chemo ASAP. If all things go as planned, the treatment will start on November 9th, for 12 weeks, followed by surgeries. The entire ordeal is expected to last 5-6 months. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement, esp. through this forum. Emily and Benji will be coordinating on-the-ground care, and managing visitors; Tesia will provide timely updates here for all those who care about Nick.

Nick is blessed to have a career he enjoys as a freelance computer programmer.  And we all know how generous is has always been with his time and also with his money. The one downside of his career is that he doesn’t have a safety net via full-time employment or sponsored insurance, esp. at a time he is unable to work. On top of astronomical max out-of-pocket cost this series of treatment will incur, he will also need other integrative support such as acupuncture, supplements, massages, and more. We are hoping that this campaign will alleviate some of that burden, and allow Nick to focus on fighting and recovering.
