It has been a very long road since Shawn was rushed to the hospital Tuesday, May 24, after I could not wake him. It took time to figure out what was wrong and it has compiled since then. He has been diagnosed with a stroke in the sensory part of his brain (which they've said is pretty rare). He had the stroke due to endocarditis (bacteria growth on aorta valve). He has been struggling with fevers and weakness since January and was never diagnosed. The doctors are very concerned at this time that another piece could break off and cause fatal stroke. They can't remove it from the heart until the bacteria is killed by the antibiotic. They also can't do the heart surgery because they have to put him on a large dose of blood thinner and that would cause another stroke. He will eventually have to have the valve replaced with a mechanical valve but we're hoping not for at least 6 weeks. At this point Shawn is struggling with speech and being alert. He sleeps a lot and sleeps hard. He was up the other day and could do all of the "normal" tasks (using the restroom, washing hands, brushing teeth, walking down the hall and his strength is great). He is frustrated that he can't communicate with me and I'm sure that's very scary. I have not left his side at all and I will be here with him through it. The boys really miss thier daddy and have facetimed with him. He's mostly been sleeping but today he held the phone and smiled at them. I sincerely appreciate all of the prayers, well wishes and offers to help. To be honest I'm very scared but I have been strong for Shawn. I'm not sure what our future will look like and that's pretty scary too but I know with all the love around Shawn, Kane, Nash and I that we will be fine!

When Kelly's friends suggested setting up this account, at first Kelly wondered if they should. Shawn has always been a good provider for their family and they are usually the ones who try to help others. Then one of the friends told her, "So many people want to help. Making a donation is one thing those of us out on the fringes, can do."
Shawn has a long row to hoe. Surgery, rehab...it will take months to make it back to where he wants to be.
If you would like to help us, please donate anything you can to go towards all of our medicals bills. This means so much to our family.
Love,
Shawn, Kelly, Kane and Nash
