A New Back For Shayla Dingwall
Donation protected
For those of you who know my niece, Shayla Dingwall, you know there isn't a kinder or more caring person in the world. She is always giving and helping others. And OMG, the girl lives for the outdoors. She knows all the best fishing holes from Vancouver to Kincolith!
Unfortunately, she was born with a degenerative disc disease. Since 2010 it's been really bad. The discs in her lower back keep herniating and she has had 2 major back surgeries to try to repair the damage. The discs are now so deteriorated that the only option left for Shayla is to have a spinal fusion procedure. This will essentially immobilize her back and severely limit her movement. This will only lead to further damage. She will eventually be wheelchair bound because she is so young.
However, there is a fantastic surgical option-disc replacement- but they don’t do it in Canada. The best technology and surgeons are in Germany. It will cost a minimum of $60,000.
Here is a link to her surgeon's website:

She already has a case manager who is working closely with her and the surgeon to ensure the best possible care and outcomes.
This is obviously a lot of money. We are asking for your help because without the surgery Shayla lives in constant and debilitating pain. This surgery would not only end her suffering, but she would also be able to enjoy a quality of life again- and enjoy the things she lives and loves to do.
It's terrible that the surgery isn't available in Canada. This is not experimental surgery-patients from across the world are being helped. Here’s a story of hope from a Prince George lady who has actually went to Germany and had it done :

Shayla's doctors in BC support this surgery. They say it will be many years before its available here. Years that Shayla doesn't have. All of the medical consults and pre-ops are being done now. We are hoping for surgery in May.
Please help by donating. Every single dollar counts. It would mean the world for Shayla to have her life back.
