Hi, I'm Kay Wallin. I have always been interested in health and fitness. I've taught fitness classes on and off since my 30's. When I was 50 I signed up for and completed a marathon and spent 3 weeks hiking the Himalayan Mountains in Nepal. At age 62 at the constant request of my daughter Elly, I begrudgingly signed up for a Triathlon. It did not occur to me that the fact that I never learned to swim and didn't own a bike could pose a problem. My partner and fiancé Jeff Bronston bought me a bike for my 62nd birthday. He showed me how to use the gears and I was off. I never learned how to swim by my first TRI but managed To doggie paddle my way through the 1/2 mile swim course without drowning and ran the 5K to finish the race. The feeling of crossing that finish line was like no other.
I have finally learned how to swim and have continued to participate in Triathlons. To my surprise, I started placing in races. Last year, after competing for just 3 years I qualified for the USAT Age Group Nationals in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
In January of this tear I received notice that I have qualified to be a part of Team USA at the USAT Triathlon World Age Group Competition in Cozumel Mexico in September 2016. I am humbled and in awe to be included with this amazing group of athletes representing the United States.
To make this event of a lifetime become a reality I would appreciate any financial support. No amount is too small and everything is deeply appreciated. Events like this can provide the encouragement for men, women and children alike to continue to live healthy, active lives through eating healthy and getting into shape one step at a time, one stroke at a time or one peddle at a time.
Thank you for your consideration. GO TEAM USA!
