Our good friend, Oscar Acosta, underwent brain surgery in late April for a condition called Chronic Hydrocephalus to remove a colloid cyst. Oscar was not aware of this condition or the cyst until he started having some serious issues with numbness, blurred vision, and nerve and memory loss. The surgery was an absolute necessity so as to not cause further medical issues or dangers to Oscar. Thankfully, the cyst was benign. Oscar's medical team expects he will make a full and complete recovery in the next several months.
As we all can imagine, this procedure was not easy and Oscar had to return to the hospital twice after the initial surgery - including a stay in ICU - for drain tubes and shunts to be put in place. Oscar then developed a blood clot in his leg that has caused additional recovery time.
As we all can also imagine, the insurance company has not been so accommodating. They are battling the Acostas and the doctors on many of the procedures and surgeries, and exactly what they will cover. With hospital bills continually being submitted that already exceed $100,000 - even with insurance - the Acostas have a fortune to begin paying back. Obviously throughout all of this, Oscar has been unable to work. When you own your own business as he does, we know that means the regular paycheck is not coming in...
And this is where WE can all come together to help out the Acostas!
Oscar Acosta owns and operates Cantura Pest Control. He has been treating our home for over 10 years and is not only our "bug fighter", but also a great friend. Oscar's wife, Shadie Acosta, who has been his rock and guardian angel throughout this whole ordeal, is a teacher at Rockwall High School and is the coach of the awesome Girls’ Softball Team. Go Lady Jackets! Oscar and Shadie are the parents to two beautiful and wonderful kids, Romero who is 12 years old and Layla who is 7 years old. Plus, they have two sweet pitbulls who have been by Oscar's side the entire time he has been home recovering. Oscar also served in the USA Army for four years prior to starting his pest control career.
Oscar and Shadie Acosta are the epitome of what is great about this country....a small business owner, a veteran, an educator and coach, loving parents, God fearing, prayerful, thankful, kind, and compassionate. The Acostas are givers. So during this time, let's be gracious and give back to them with open hearts.
All money donated will go directly to the Acosta Family to help subsidize Oscar's medical expenses.
Please remember that any amount is valuable and helpful.
Thank you so very much for your time, consideration and donation!
