Fatuma is a strong and brave woman who needs our support right now.
As many of you are already aware, El Niño has wreaked havoc in East Africa. Over the past few months, heavy rains have flooded streets and damaged buildings.

Fatuma Salem Ibraham has been among the victims.
Fatuma works for us part time as a maid, coming to our home twice a week to help with ironing and cleaning. We have known her for 5 years.
She lives in Kibera, which is on the outskirts of Nairobi. Kibera has the dubious honour of being the largest slum in Africa.
She lives with her daughter, her grandson, and an orphaned niece and nephew for whom she cares, in a tiny 3 room house made out of mud walls covered in plaster. It has a tin roof and a cement and dirt floor. It has no plumbing or electricity.
During the torrential rains, the open sewer nearby overflowed and flooded her home multiple times. Also her ceiling leaks which added to the damage.
She was forced to move out of her home and take refuge with her aunt whose living conditions are similar and very crowded.
Now that the rains have subsided, she is unable to return to her home as it has sustained structural damage making it unsafe and in danger of collapsing. Rotting wood supports need to be replaced. Walls need to be repaired and re-plastered. The ceiling needs to be replaced. The floor needs to be repaired. Damaged items need to be replaced. And a thorough cleaning is in order. Let’s help Fatuma win the fight against El Niño by repairing her flood damaged home.
Fatuma is a wonderful person and is deserving of your support. She is a very hard worker and does a meticulous job! She is honest and trustworthy. She never had the chance to attend school therefor she is illiterate. She also suffers from diabetes and high blood pressure. But despite all this she manages to care for her own children and also two orphans, the children of her sister who died from Malaria. As is often the custom among the Nubian tribe, her husband has had to leave Kenya to find work. He is in Qatar working as a security guard and only is able to send home small amounts of money. She also has a teenage son attending school in Mombasa for whom she pays school fees.
Please help Fatuma repair her home so that she can re-occupy it. Any amount is greatly appreciated. Robert Davis and Alice Davis will start off the campaign by contributing $500.
