Nikki Prothro’s Legacy

In April of 2020 Nikki had gotten a sore on her left heel, and the infection had gotten out of control. The infection had spread to her bone causing the doctors to amputate Nikki’s left leg, just above her knee. While she was recovering from the amputation, it was realized that she also had a small sore on her back side. Unfortunately, the infection never healed. In mid October, Nikki was taken by ambulance to the hospital, then life flighted to UNMC. After arriving at The Med Center, she received 6 surgeries for her infection, but it kept spreading. This caused Nikki to go into septic shock, so she was placed on a ventilator and in a medically induced coma for a week. Unfortunately, her body was no longer able to fight off the infection and she had no more healthy tissue left surrounding the infection. With the advice of the doctors, and knowing there were no other options available, the decision was made to bring Nikki home and start hospice. It is with a very heavy heart, to inform everyone that Nikki passed away at her home surrounded by her loved ones on October 27, 2020. All money raised will be going to help support Nikki’s 14 year old son, Makai. Please help this beautiful family in their time of need ❤️.
